Handwashing for Health: Malinis na Kamay, Malusog na Komunidad
Rotary Club of Cabuyao Circle Brings Handsoap Support to Three CDCs in Brgy. Marinig
On 26 February 2026, the Rotary Club of Cabuyao Circle conducted a simple but meaningful community activity, “Handwashing for Health: Malinis na Kamay, Malusog na Komunidad,” by donating and distributing handsoaps to young learners in three Child Development Centers (CDCs) in Barangay Marinig, Cabuyao City: Marinig North CDC, Marinig South CDC, and Southville Marinig NHA CDC.
This initiative was led by Project Chair PP Neris Santiago, with Perry Crescini serving as facilitator during the short handwashing awareness talk.
A Small Habit That Prevents Big Illness
During the distribution, a brief reminder was shared with the children—simple, practical, and easy to remember: wash hands properly before eating and after using the comfort room. For early learners, routines matter. When handwashing becomes an everyday habit at school, it becomes easier for children to practice it at home as well.
Hand hygiene is one of the most basic health defenses in any learning environment. Clean hands help reduce the spread of common illnesses such as cough and colds, stomach discomfort, and other infections that can easily circulate in shared spaces like classrooms, play areas, and feeding stations.
Supported by Dedicated CDC Teachers
The handsoaps were distributed with the help of the CDCs’ handling teachers, who ensured that the learners received their soaps properly and that the activity complemented daily school routines:
-
Teacher Charina Galang – Marinig South CDC
-
Teacher Sheryl C. De Luna – Marinig North CDC
-
Teacher Jonnah Onor – Southville Marinig NHA CDC
Their hands-on support was essential—not only in logistics, but also in reinforcing the message that hygiene is a shared responsibility between school and home.
Teachers’ Feedback: “Practical, Timely, and Very Helpful”
Although the activity was short, the impact was immediately clear—especially for teachers who handle daily routines and see firsthand how essential basic hygiene supplies are in early childhood learning.
Teacher Charina Galang (Marinig South CDC) shared that the donation is both timely and practical:
“Malaking tulong ito sa mga bata kasi daily namin tinuturuan ang handwashing, pero minsan kulang sa supplies. With the handsoaps, mas magiging consistent ang practice nila. Ang bango pa—mas ganado silang maghugas ng kamay.”
Teacher Sheryl C. De Luna (Marinig North CDC) highlighted how the soaps support discipline and health in the classroom:
“Handwashing is part of our routine, especially before snacks and after the comfort room. This donation helps us reinforce the habit. The soap smells so good and is pleasant to use—parang reward pa sa mga bata.”
Teacher Jonnah Onor (Southville Marinig NHA CDC) noted that the soaps encourage children to enjoy hygiene as a positive experience:
“Kapag mabango at gentle ang soap, mas nae-engganyo ang learners. It becomes a happy routine. This will really benefit the children, and we’re grateful RCCC chose our center as one of the recipients.”
More Than Soap—It’s Confidence, Care, and Consistency
For many families, school is where children first learn consistent hygiene habits. Providing handsoaps may look small, but it supports a bigger goal: keeping kids healthy, present, and ready to learn. When children get sick less often, attendance improves, classroom engagement improves, and parents miss fewer workdays caring for sick children.
RCCC’s Handwashing for Health is aligned with Rotary’s commitment to community well-being—showing that service doesn’t always have to be grand to be impactful. Sometimes, the most meaningful projects are those that strengthen daily life and teach habits that last.
Thank You to Our Partners on the Ground
RCCC extends its appreciation to PP Neris Santiago for leading the project, to the CDC teachers for their hands-on assistance, and to everyone who helped make the activity smooth and joyful for the learners.
Handwashing for Health reminds us of a simple truth:
Malinis na kamay = mas ligtas na bata, mas malusog na komunidad.
