Michael Allan Dizon’s Starkey Hearing Institute Journey: Building “Local Hands” for Hearing Health in Cabuyao

The Rotary Club of Cabuyao Circle proudly celebrates Michael Allan Abia Dizon, a club member who has completed a major professional milestone in hearing health—training that directly supports sustainable community service and aligns strongly with Rotary’s mission.

Michael successfully completed a hybrid Certificate Course on Community-based Ear and Hearing Health, delivered under the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Master in Clinical Audiology Program, in partnership with the Anargyroi FMS Foundation and the Starkey Hearing Foundation.

Starkey Hearing Foundation and the SHI approach

The Starkey Hearing Foundation is known globally for expanding access to hearing care through outreach and community capacity building—training people who can continue hearing health support locally even after missions end. The Foundation’s work in the Philippines supports the development of trained community-based providers who can strengthen continuity of care.

Michael’s certificate course completion

Michael completed the program in a structured hybrid format that combined theory and hands-on competency building:

  • 22 hours of synchronous online lectures

  • 120 hours of skills workshop training

  • Conducted from August 2025 to February 2026

  • Held through the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery

His Certificate of Completion was issued on 27 February 2026 at Solaire Resort, 1 Aseana Ave., Tambo, Parañaque City.

The certificate was signed by:

  • Asst. Prof. Christopher Ed Gloria, MD (Program Head, Master in Clinical Audiology Program)

  • Prof. Ma. Lourdes D. Maglinao, MD (Dean, UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery)

  • Mr. Richard S. Brown (President and Board Chair, Starkey Hearing Foundation)

This certification reflects both academic rigor and practical training—exactly the kind of preparation needed for responsible, community-centered hearing health work.

Rotary leadership in action

Hearing loss is often an “invisible” challenge that affects communication, learning, safety, work performance, and social connection. When hearing concerns are ignored or unaddressed, the impact can ripple across families and communities—especially among seniors, working adults, and children whose learning outcomes depend heavily on communication.

By completing this training, Michael strengthens his capacity to support hearing health initiatives with a clearer technical foundation and a stronger community perspective—an embodiment of Rotary’s commitment to service with competence, compassion, and credibility.

Relevance to RCCC’s community impact

Michael’s certification aligns directly with Rotary’s Disease Prevention and Treatment focus and supports RCCC’s direction as a club that values long-term, sustainable community solutions.

With a trained RCCC member in this field, the club becomes better positioned to explore and support initiatives such as:

  • Hearing health awareness campaigns and education sessions

  • Basic screening and referral pathways in partnership with qualified professionals and institutions

  • Community programs that may support seniors, learners, and working families, where hearing health can have a major daily impact

This milestone also strengthens RCCC’s ability to build partnerships with schools, health institutions, and local stakeholders—because credible training and certification create trust, clearer program design, and better community outcomes.

RCCC’s congratulations to Michael

RCCC is honored and thrilled to have Michael Allan Abia Dizon as a member of our club. His completion of this certification is not only a professional achievement—it is a stronger foundation for service.

Congratulations, Michael. Your Starkey–UST journey reflects what Rotary stands for: developing people who choose to learn, grow, and bring their skills back to the community for the benefit of others.

We look forward to the impact your new competencies will help create—right here in Cabuyao and beyond.
